Inspirations

This week's inspiration comes from two sources. Lately, I've had a weird obsession with the infinity symbol. There's something about it that interest me. You can find it in many forms but it still means the same thing and has the same physical form. The other obsession lately I've had is native american dreamcatchers. I like the patterns within the circle and the decorations that have been hung around them.

Fast, fast, fast

Trying to get type done pretty quickly! For my poster I just recreated my original and changed the colors (printing all black poster on the back of my book would have caused some issues.) The sizing kind of threw me off also. Let me know if you have any suggestions anyone!

Cinco

Inspiration again in such a simple way. I have an obsession with gum and when 5 gum came out from Wrigley's, I immediately bought it. But why did I buy it, because I liked the packaging. And for this reason alone I continue to buy five gum only because I like the look of it.. not because it is any better than any other gum. The simple black packing with burst of color is my favorite. One of my favorite websites also ran a piece about the gum packaging when it first came out.

Companion Process

This week's process, ACL COMPANION BOOK :) I knew from the start I wanted to play with my infographic poster and some how incorporate it into a book.

Concepts:
For my concepts I stuck with infographics and basically made two concepts out of the one idea. However, neither of these were too successful and I needed to rethink how I wanted to make it.

Concept #1

Concept #2
Final Layouts:
I exaggerated the infographics more and played around with color. I tried to include a chart in each spread. My type I tried to keep consistent between each page with the use of the bold futura condensed heading and then a simple line underneath the headings to break before the secondary type. Overall I am happy with how it's progressing and hope that it continues to progress in a positive way!

Take the Wheel

So I guess I didn't keep track of my inspiration right but my inspiration lately has been the tumblr Nobody at the Wheel. Each post is a piece of crumpled or old paper that has a quote on it. The quotes almost always scarily relates to my life or finds a way to inspire for me for something. Two of my favorites are below!

Ohh sNap

Here goes nothing... I finally got around to making my letter for this "wonderful" event. Not as excited as everyone else, but hey at least I got my letter done. I thought it was going to be more difficult then it was so I waited last minute but once I started it I finally got the hang of it. Making it fit to my body was even easier than constructing it. This project was also a constant reminder of how much me and hot glue do not get along. Craft = iffy.

Daytum

I'm not sure how much of a process this is but since my inspiration for the upcoming book was infographics I decided to make a daytum. Below is the beginning of this process and as I figure it out more I'll put more updates up. You can find me here.

Infographics loveee

Today we got our new typography task. Create a companion book for the ACL Music Festival using information provided. We will create one book that is a z-fold and has one of our posters on the back and another version of the same book that is traditionally bound. We need to bring in 2 concepts for our book to class on Monday and as of today I have one concept that comes from one of my favorite posters is my radial pie graph poster (below). Using this poster I have come to the idea of making the book with the inspiration of infographics. Infographics amuse me to no end. I love it.. if it's a job I want it! For the next couple days I'm probably gonna harass my blog with some that I find interesting/inspiring, possibly even make a daytum just for the cool graphics. All found at this website.

(my original Radial poster)

( I like the layout and the information for the next two suprisingly)

(reallllly cool resume, I'm jealous I didn't think of it first)

(DAYTUM.. i will have my own eventually)
(I wish someone would make these into actual coins please)
(Gotta love Pixar)
